Story

Let's talk about granite for a minute. Of all the rocks a vine can put its roots into, granite is the one that brings freshness. When Adi Badenhorst left the award-winning Rustenberg and decided to renovate a winery near Malmsbury, derelict for over half a century, he knew something the other buyers didn't: that it stood on three different types of granite. Freshness? You bet.

Chenin Blanc is one of the world’s most versatile varieties. Originally the cornerstone (and sometimes problem child) of the Loire, it grows particularly well in the sunny days and cool nights of South Africa.

Taste

Adi's Secateurs Chenin Blanc has a wonderfully floral nose, which might fool the unwary into expecting sweetness. But with a low 2g/l of residual sugar, you can revel in the honeyed fruit knowing that the crisp finish will leave you wanting another sip. The intensity of taste is testament to the age of the vines, now over 40 years old, which have established their roots deep into the sub-surface granite.

Serve

Chilled at 11°.

Match

Pork-herb terrine and a picnic of dips and roasted vegetables for starters. But locals know the crisp acidity also pairs well with buttery sauces, so pan-fried fish with Cape Beurre Blanc is a great match for the main course.

Avoid

Thinking granite is the be-all and end-all of freshness. As any parent knows, it doesn't work as a laundry detergent nor does a handful 'improve' most lunch-times.

Quote

Over-delivers in the most delightful way ... refreshing enough to serve in the sort of circumstances you might serve a white burgundy.
